Bespoke Exhibition Stand for Leica: Setting a New Standard for Sustainable Design

When Leica Camera approached us, the brief went far beyond customary exhibition design. Known worldwide for exact engineering and classic craftsmanship, they needed a bespoke exhibition stand that would move away from static product display and instead embody something more meaningful—a living expression of sustainability, craftsmanship, and long-term impact.

Set within the context of Global Birdfair, where conservationists, wildlife photographers, and wildlife lovers converge, the opportunity was clear: create an environment that not just showcases Leica but also feels like Leica. The stand had to immerse visitors in a natural world inspired by woodland ecosystems, while also strengthening the brand’s ecological commitments and charitable partnerships in a concrete, interactive way.

Rather than relying on conventional exhibition tropes, we approached the project as an occasion to redefine what a sustainable event presence could look like—blending environmental accountability with premium brand storytelling.

Designing a Nature-Led Bespoke Exhibition Stand Experience

We adopted a timber-led construction approach, replacing traditional metal frameworks with FSC-certified wood. This lowered environmental impact and extended the structure’s life cycle for future events.

Our concept brought the outside world into the exhibition space. We incorporated UK-native planting schemes and used modular gabion structures as both visual anchors and functional planters. Together, these parts created a layered, woodland-inspired environment which seemed organic.

To meet the quick build schedule at Birdfair, we developed a modular system for off-site pre-assembly of key components. Pre-grown planting units ensured established greenery upon arrival, reducing the instability associated with live installations.

Aside from aesthetics, the stand encouraged interaction and longer visits. Visitors interacted with Leica specialists in relaxed seating areas, explored the brand’s camera repair service, and participated in a podcast zone focused on conservation, creativity, and sustainability.

Every element was intentionally linked to Leica’s identity, forming a space where the iconic red dot was integrated within a living environment.

Driving Engagement Through Sustainable Exhibition Design

The success of this bespoke exhibition stand lay not only in its visual impact but also in how it reshaped audience behaviour.

QR-enabled storytelling panels allowed visitors to instantly explore Leica’s charitable partnerships and sustainability initiatives. Engagement with these touchpoints exceeded expectations, demonstrating that digital interaction can enhance the physical experience when deliberately integrated.

More importantly, the stand fostered sincere emotional connections. Visitors stayed, explored, and interacted. The repair booth attracted loyal Leica users, while the living wall backdrop served as a focal point for photography and social sharing.

Client feedback reinforced the project’s impact. Leica’s leadership described the stand as a standout presence at the event and a strong expression of the brand’s values.

Ultimately, the project showed how a bespoke exhibition stand can go beyond product display to serve as a platform for advocacy, storytelling, and sustainable design innovation, establishing a benchmark for future eco-conscious exhibitions.
